Our Story
HeyHalaal is the product of years of conceptualisation and strategic thinking. The idea was first conceived in April 2021, born from a simple but persistent frustration: South African Muslims had no single, reliable, mobile-friendly place to find and verify halal-certified businesses near them.
Despite South Africa having four recognised halal certification bodies — each maintaining their own separate, often difficult to navigate databases — there was no unified directory that brought this information together in an accessible, consumer-focused format.
After years of planning, HeyHalaal was designed and relaunched in May 2026, built from the ground up as a modern, mobile-first platform that aggregates, verifies and presents halal certification data from all major South African certification bodies in one place.

Our Mission
To make it simple, fast and trustworthy for every South African Muslim to find halal-certified food wherever they are — whether at home, travelling, or discovering a new neighbourhood. Every listing is cross-referenced with official certification databases so consumers can eat with confidence.

All listed bodies are recognised by the World Halal Council (WHC) or operate under ISO-compliant certification standards. HeyHalaal does not certify businesses — we reference and display data from these recognised authorities.
📌 A Note to Certification Bodies
To give consumers the best possible experience — including accurate map locations and "Near Me" search functionality — we encourage all certification bodies to include GPS coordinates (latitude & longitude) for each certified business in their published directories.

HeyHalaal is a socially responsible entity designed to serve the Muslim community, not just as a commercial product, but as a genuine contribution to the fabric of Islamic commercial life in South Africa.
The platform is built to be sustainable through the income it generates — from advertising, featured listings and partnerships — which funds ongoing development, infrastructure, and the management of the service. It will always remain accessible to the public at no cost.
HeyHalaal accepts contributions from the community and organisations that share its values, but is committed to maintaining independence and freedom from undue external influence. No commercial or institutional relationship will compromise the integrity of our listings or editorial decisions.
